In addition to the weekly meetings before the trip, our group will be meeting one final time on Monday, March 26th, to reflect on our trip experience. The trip itself will last eleven days, from March 3rd to the 14th. It will include the following:
Saturday, March 3rd – Monday, March 5th
Departure from Des Moines airport at 3:25pm. Flights on the way there go through Dallas, London, and Nairobi before arrival in Kigali.
Monday, March 5th
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, Rwanda, at 10:45am. Check in to Hotel Chez Lando for a brief respite before visiting the National Genocide Memorial Center during the afternoon. Spend evening at Hotel Chez Lando.
Tuesday, March 6th to Thursday, March 8th
Travel to Kibungo, Rwanda to stay at the Saint Joseph Center about five minutes walk from INATEK (the Institute of Agriculture, Technology, and Education of Kibungo). While in Kibungo, visit with college students from INATEK, sit in on a lecture or two, visit primary schools, and the town center.
Friday, March 9th to Monday, March 12th
Travel from Kibungo, Rwanda to Kigali in the morning for an early afternoon flight to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, where a member of Roy’s Safari’s will meet us. We will spend Friday and Saturday evenings at the Ngorongoro Farm House, with Saturday being spent with a sunrise game drive in the Ngorongoro crater and an afternoon tour of the coffee field and farm-house before relaxing for the evening. Sunday will be spent at the Tarangire National game park with an overnight at the Tarangire River camp. Monday will have more game drives before we are dropped off at a bed and breakfast in town.
Monday, March 12th
Last evening on the trip (outside of airport time). Time for last-minute shopping at the local markets.
Tuesday, March 13th to Wednesday, March 14th
Our flight departs from Kilimanjaro at 7:40pm on Tuesday, March 13th. On our return to the United States, we fly through Nairobi, London, and Chicago before reaching our Des Moines airport destination at 5:30pm.
