A New Relationship with Laos for the United States

This week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited the small country of Laos, located in Asia near Cambodia, China, and Myanmar/Burma. The visit to Laos was done in coordination of new policies between the former Vietnam ally and the United States.

During the visit, Secretary of State Clinton promised that the United States will begin to work on dismantling and eradicating leftover bombs and mines that are still hurting people today. According to the Laos government, more than 20,000 people have died as a result of these items left in the country after the end of the Vietnam conflict.

Yahoo News has an extensive article on this topic and can be viewed here: http://news.yahoo.com/historic-visit-clinton-reaches-laos-042535067.html

In April, the United World Club from William Penn University represented the country of Laos as a part of the National Model United Nations conference. If you want to read about part of that experience for us, of researching a country that we had little previous knowledge of, you might want to check out this blog post: https://williampennuniversitystudyabroad.wordpress.com/2012/04/03/a-global-perspective-the-national-model-united-nations-conference-in-new-york-city/
