Global Geography: A Must Know in Today’s World
If you ask the average American on the street, they might not be able to find Kazakhstan on a map. (If you are lucky, they would know a bit more than the film Borat in 2006 portrayed of the country.)
World geography of major countries is taught at many schools but some of the smaller or lesser known countries, such as Mauritius, seem to be often forgotten in those global map tests.

This is so true, and not just for people from the US, but for people from all over. Here in Colombia, I’ve noticed it’s the same. In my Intercultural Communications class, most of my students say geography is a topic not really taught here and they sometimes struggle to identify the geographic location of many cultures and nationalities!
